Sidebar: Mitfords, Quilts, and Crime Shows
From Britbox Detectives to Quilts of Resistance to memes we need
This is my weekly roundup of links and recommendations. If we talked IRL, I’d likely derail our entire conversation with “Sidebar, have you read | watched | listened | deep dived on this?”
We’re in hell, so here’s some stuff to distract, edify, and entertain.
Have you watched?
Death Valley (Britbox) A Welsh police officer who is insanely charming takes on the advice of a retired actor to solve murders. Said actor happened to star in her fave detective show, which she happened to watch during a depressive episode after a traumatic event. Despite this description, it’s light, fun, and they have great chemistry. I love it.
Dept. Q (Netflix). A British (by way of Scotland) mystery series starring Matthew Goode. If you still need more to go on, he plays a cranky but talented detective who returns to run a new department of long unsolved cases after an injury on the job. It’s creepy but fun.
Outrageous (Britbox) The much-anticipated (by me) series on the Mitford sisters. I have more to say on this, so stay tuned for that.
