Sidebar: IRA Intrigue, Kim K’s Mystery Machine, and Cher’s Memoir Bombshells
This is my weekly roundup of links and recommendations. If we talked IRL, I’d likely derail our entire conversation with “Sidebar, have you read | watched | listened | deep dived on this?”
Have you watched?
Say Nothing (Hulu)
This is an INTENSE adaptation of Patrick Radden Keefe’s book of same name. I am not done with it, but I loved the book and love the show. It follows the troubles in Northern Ireland from the 1970s to the present, under the guise of recording an oral history project involving IRA members. Each episode lets us know Gerry Adams was not in the IRA, contrary to the entire presentation of the show and people are obsessed with this Streisand effect disclaimer.
English Teacher (Hulu)
I am obsessed with this comedy following a gay teacher in conservative Texas outside Austin. I genuinely laugh out loud watching this, and can’t recommend it enough. The banter with the teachers and students just makes me feel so seen.
High Potential (ABC)
I love a procedural, and this new show starring Kaitlin Olson. She plays a cleaning lady at LAPD who solves mysteries unprompted due to her high IQ. Is the premise hokey? 10000%. However, I find Kaitlin Olson charming and love seeing someone who is criminally underestimated turning the tables on everyone. It is not upsetting, and doesn’t require too much thought.
