Sidebar! From The Great British Bake Off to Snoopy Drama: This Week’s Must-See Links
This week I have recs and links that would make fellow Leo Martha Stewart proud.
This is my weekly roundup of links and recommendations. If we talked IRL, I’d likely derail our entire conversation with “Sidebar, have you read | watched | listened | deep dived on this?”
Reminder: I will be at the Cleveland History Center on Saturday, October 19th to talk American Girl and hang out with new friends at an awesome new doll and miniature exhibit. Come hang out! More info here.
Have you watched?
The Great British Baking Show (Netflix) I have seen every episode of this show, so believe me when I say the contestants this season are of very high quality and producing things that look like art. I also love the vibe Allison Hammond brings to everything. I get the feeling the hosts are rooting for the contestants, and it is just a pleasant show that will make you feel good in an uncomplicated way.
No Offense (Britbox) This is a new-to-me show that follows the Manchester police as they try to find a serial killer. Did I mention it’s somehow funny and has a very charming cast ? I am entering my cozy mystery season so expect a lot of mystery-related content from me.
Tea with the Dames (2018) Also called Nothing like a Dame in the UK, this is an incredibly funny and charming documentary following Maggie Smith, Joan Plowright, Eileen Atkins, and Judi Dench (all Dames) as they reminisce about their careers. I have seen this three times, and I love putting it on when I just want to laugh. I did feel sad at this watch knowing that the funniest person in the group (Maggie Smith) left us recently. I LOVE the moment when she razzes Judi Dench for getting all the roles (leading to the rest accepting her castoffs). You can tell when people genuinely like each other, and seeing this monument to their friendship is very sweet.
