Sidebar: Don't Cheat at a Coldplay Concert!
A new bio on Gwyneth, a show that takes us back in time, and drama at a Coldplay concert.
This is my weekly roundup of links and recommendations. If we talked IRL, I’d likely derail our entire conversation with “Sidebar, have you read | watched | listened | deep dived on this?”
Have you watched?
Too Much (Netflix). I love Meg Stalter and have been loving her leading lady turn as the star of Lena Dunham’s new Netflix show about a dumped woman who moves to London to start over (is this based on Jack Antonoff/Lena’s breakup?)
Back to the Frontier (HBO Max). One of the best moments in reality tv history was the decision to force people to live like different eras of history and film it. What could go wrong? Fontier Life on PBS and Pioneer Quest both live in my head rent-free. This latest iteration is the brainchild of Chip and Joanna Gaines and places three families in the 1880s as homesteaders. I associate the Gaines family with shiplap and ties to a homophobic church. However, the three families we follow include a gay family and also highlight people of color, people across the life cycle, etc. All of the families are upper-middle class which limits the capacity of the cast to see the past as anything but the loss of their tech, homes, luxuries, etc. I want a Gen Z duo in there who realizes homesteading actually is a better gig than paying to greedy landlords forever without the chance of ownership! (Because we live in hell, Chip and Joanna have gotten lots of criticism for casting a gay couple).
